Martin Thomas Harold Matthews

The nineteenth Auditor-General of New Zealand, Martin Thomas Harold Matthews, has served as Controller and Auditor-General since February 1, 2017.

Martin joined the (then) Audit Office in 1979. He was an Assistant Auditor-General from 1990 to 1998.

Martin then spent 10 years as Chief Executive of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage. He later served as Secretary for Transport and Chief Executive of the Ministry of Transport, from 2008 to June 2016.

Martin was sworn in as Controller and Auditor-General by the Right Honourable David Carter, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on 14 December 2016.

Martin resigned as Controller and Auditor-General on 2 August 2017.
